Registered Clinical Counsellor | In-person therapy in Port Coquitlam | Online therapy across British Columbia
If you feel overwhelmed, stuck in old patterns, or affected by stress or past experiences, therapy can help your mind and body process what has been held for too long.
You might recognize yourself in some of the following:
- Your nervous system rarely feels completely calm
- You feel constantly on edge, even when nothing obvious is wrong
- Certain situations trigger reactions that feel bigger than the moment
- You’ve tried to “think your way through” anxiety but it keeps returning
- Past experiences still affect how you respond to life today
If this feels familiar, you’re not alone—and it makes sense based on how the nervous system responds to stress and trauma.
When the nervous system has been shaped by stress or trauma, it can remain stuck in patterns of protection long after the original experience has passed.
Therapy can begin with a conversation.
What therapy with me is like
Therapy with me is calm, collaborative, and guided by your nervous system’s pace.
You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what to say or where to start. Many clients begin therapy simply feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure why certain reactions keep repeating in their lives.
Together we create a safe space to explore what is happening beneath the surface, helping your nervous system release old patterns and move toward greater calm, clarity, and connection.
There is no pressure to go faster than what feels right. We move at a pace that supports real, lasting change.
A brief, no-pressure conversation to explore whether therapy feels right for you.
About Kaye Frost-Hunt
My approach focuses on how the nervous system stores and responds to past experiences. When these responses are gently processed, many people find they feel calmer, more grounded, and less trapped in old patterns.
I work with clients experiencing trauma, anxiety, and nervous system overwhelm through both in-person counselling in Port Coquitlam and secure online therapy across British Columbia.
Therapies I Use to Support Trauma Recovery
Different therapy approaches support healing in different ways. I offer counselling that goes beyond traditional talk therapy by integrating specialized, evidence-informed approaches such as Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), EMDR, and LENS neurofeedback. These therapies can help access deeper emotional and nervous system patterns, particularly when difficulties feel stuck or hard to explain.
DBR Treatment
Deep Brain Reorienting® (DBR) is a gentle, body based therapy that helps resolve trauma at a very deep level—often before thoughts or emotions are fully formed. This can lead to a growing sense of calm, grounding, and relief from long-standing reactions.
DBR works by supporting the nervous system to process very early instinctive responses that occur in the moment of shock or threat. By gently attending to these subtle bodily signals in a safe and calmly paced way, the nervous system can complete responses that were once interrupted, allowing old trauma patterns to release and settle. More information.
EMDR Treatment
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy helps reduce the emotional intensity of painful or overwhelming memories, so they no longer feel as present or triggering in daily life. This often results in fewer intrusive thoughts, less emotional reactivity, and a greater sense of distance from past experiences.
EMDR works by helping the brain reprocess difficult memories, so they are stored in a more adaptive way. When this happens, memories can still be remembered, but they no longer carry the same emotional charge or influence current reactions in the same way. More information.
LENS Treatment
Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS) therapy is a gentle, noninvasive form of neurofeedback that supports the brain’s ability to regulate itself more effectively. As the nervous system becomes more flexible, people often feel calmer, clearer, and more resilient to stress.
LENS uses very low energy feedback based on your brain’s own activity to help shift stuck brainwave patterns. This can be especially helpful when anxiety, overwhelm, or trauma symptoms feel physical, automatic, or difficult to change through insight alone. More information.
How These Therapies Work Together
A layered approach to trauma healing
Each method targets a different layer of the brain and nervous system:
| Method | Focus | What it Does |
| EMDR | Memory + Emotion | Reprocesses traumatic memories so they lose emotional charge |
| LENS | Brainwave Regulation | Resets brainwave patterns and supports nervous system balance |
| DBR | Deep Nervous System | Resolves core shock responses and bodily memory |
Used Together:
- I may start with LENS to stabilize your nervous system before going into deeper trauma work.
- EMDR helps clear the emotional roots of anxiety, triggers, or stuck beliefs.
- DBR reaches the oldest, deepest parts of trauma, especially if it began early in life or before words.
Together, they offer a comprehensive, layered path to healing—from brainwave regulation to emotional relief to deep nervous system repair.
I may begin with LENS to calm your system, then move into EMDR or DBR depending on your needs. Together, these tools create a full-spectrum approach to trauma recovery—mental, emotional, neurological, and physical.
As this work unfolds, many clients begin to observe subtle changes in how they feel and respond to life.
What clients often notice after therapy begins
Everyone’s healing process is unique, but many people experience gradual shifts as therapy progresses.
Over time, people often experience:
- Feeling calmer and less frequently on edge
- Greater awareness of emotional patterns and triggers
- More space between a situation and their reaction
- Improved ability to regulate stress and anxiety
- A deeper sense of connection with themselves and others
Healing rarely happens all at once. Instead, many people describe a gradual sense that things begin to feel more manageable, more understandable, and less overwhelming.
Many clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed or stuck. Over time, they often discover a greater sense of calm, clarity, and self-understanding.
Support for Veterans and First Responders
Many first responders and veterans experience stress and trauma that can remain in the nervous system long after difficult events.
I have experience working with firefighters, veterans, and other first responders, helping them process trauma and regain a greater sense of calm and control in daily life.
Other Counselling Treatments
In addition to trauma-focused therapies, I also offer supportive counselling for individuals, couples, and families navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, anxiety, and personal growth.
